HI! I'M AL FONTANILLA.

I'm a story artist, character designer, and matte painter. Currently an ATEC student at the University of Texas at Dallas, I've found the greatest joy in telling heartfelt stories, creating diverse, unique characters, and all in all, using my art to help others feel they have a place and a story. From sci fi to fantasy to magical realism, my work thrives on the thought that the world is a bigger and more magical place than what we give it credit for.

I've always wanted to be able to see myself in media, and for the longest time, I couldn't. There are plenty of shows, movies, and books where adventure took place, but the characters felt better than me and different in a way that I couldn't relate - characters didn't look like me, and certainly didn't act like me. But the few that did resonate, did so deeply that I felt it necessary to pursue a career making sure there are characters and stories for everyone to find themselves in somewhere. I celebrate the different and the creative in my work, and hope it reaches someone who needs it.

Apart from drawing, I enjoy aquascaping, ice skating, and weight lifting. I can whistle just about any tune and have perfected the art of swirling the perfect ice cream cone. It's a limited skill set, but the results are always impressive.
